Biography

Jason was born and raised in SW Missouri. He later moved to Houston, Texas to pursue education and training opportunities afforded to him in an urban setting. He has been a paramedic for over 20 years and a nurse over 15. He began his career as a nurse specializing in the care and transport of pediatric and neonate patients over 15 years ago. He has spent a large part of his career, however, in emergency medicine. Recently, he has focused his efforts on the prevention of injuries. Within this realm, he teaches a variety of injury prevention courses and provides an assortment of outreach education to hospitals and EMS crews across the state as wel as the nation.

Presentation 1 

Title: That's Going to Leave a Mark

This is a case study based presentation on a variety of patients who had unique types of impalement and crush injuries. These cases walk though the steps of how each level of provider plays a crucial role in the ultimate outcome of the patient. Certain cases involve dispatch obstacles with locating patients and fly vs. no fly scenarios. Detailed photos taken will keep attendees interested through each case as it goes through a trauma system.

Presentation 2

Title: Lessons Learned: The Joplin Tornado

The role of EMS in a disaster situation such as the F5 tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri in 2011 is discussed. Jason will review what was done well and highlights things that happened that were not covered in previous disaster drills.
