A former firefighter and EMT in college, he eventually received his MD degree from State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn in Brooklyn, NY. In addition, Lou is the EMS Director for the Agawam Fire Department, Ludlow Fire Department, Alert Ambulance, National Ambulance and RAM Ambulance all within the Western MA area. He is the local medical director for American Medical Response's NCTI paramedic program in Springfield and is a member of the National Association of EMS Physicians. This lecture covers the best techniques to recognize and prevent the escalation of the agitated patient.It covers the psychology and pathophysiology of agitation and teaches the EMT and Paramedic to differentiate between medical and psychological causes of agitation. It also covers the medico-legal and documentation pitfalls in dealing with this patient population.
